THE ASCENDED

The fifteen dimensions of existence are home to many creatures of great variety, but one of the most interesting races of beings residing there is the Ascended. Like other entities such as the Flemi, the Ascended are metaphysical beings born from the fabric of reality itself, although much less ancient and powerful. They prefer to observe from the shadows rather than take a direct role and are known to be quiet and difficult to perceive. However, that is not to say that the Ascended have no influence on the political machines of existence, just that they work to sway public opinion through more indirect and even subliminal methods like propaganda. Due to the great collection of information they have accumulated over their many years of observation, most Ascended are quite knowledgeable and wise.

The form that the Ascended display to physical beings is extremely fluid, rarely ever set in stone. They usually don’t dictate their own form, instead deferring it to the emotions and perceptions of those around them, which speaks to how important the opinions of others are to them. Those Ascended who are most involved with the public often find themselves taking a shape related to how they are viewed by society. Those who are respected or thought of as important usually possess a striking, even intimidating aura, while those who are ridiculed appear withered and insignificant. An Ascended who feels particularly valued may become uncharacteristically vocal and involved in the politics of the fifteen dimensions, while an Ascended who feels looked down upon will usually fade away into the obscurity that sometimes characterizes their race.

Most Ascended exist only within the second dimension of spacetime, but all can shift between the second and third dimensions at will, granting them an elusiveness that makes it difficult for enemies to pin them down. The Ascended are a perceptive and quick-minded race, and they are rarely ever slain by anyone who would hunt them such as some of reality’s darker children. However, for all their intellect and agility, they cannot manipulate spacetime much and lack offensive or defensive power individually, and an Ascendent pinned down is usually dead meat to stronger metaphysical predators. In groups, however, Ascendents may manage to merge their mental strengths into a potent psychic force strong enough to deal significant damage to any potential oppressors.

When the infamous Event occurred, the Ascended retreated into safety, quietly watching as existence began to tear itself apart from the inside out. One by one, each member of their race withdrew into oblivion once again, refusing to partake in the chaos of a dissolving world. However, the influence of the Event was far reaching, and there was no doubt that it affected the metaphysical just as much as the physical. As their own perfect world began to suffer, the Ascended realized that they could remain passive no longer. Fortunately for them, the changes brought on by the Event were not all negative- much of the great surge of energies released by the occurrence found its way to the Ascended, and with the passage of time, they began to feel their power growing…
